"Out of Africa: Reflections on Modern and Contemporary Art of the Americas."

Six monthly Wednesday-morning lectures by local experts will take a look at the complex subject of the art of the African Diaspora from our particular geographical position on the shores of the Caribbean.

"Yinka Shonibare: A Flying Machine for Every Man, Woman and Child"

British-born of Nigerian parents, Shonibare is known for his installations and photographs displaying a mélange of African and European cultures reflecting the legacy of 19th century colonialism.

"NeoHooDoo: Art for a Forgotten Faith"

The term HooDoo, which originated in 19th-century America, refers to folkloric magic or healing, while in contemporary art, NeoHooDoo describes the use of ritual to reinterpret cultural heritage.
